Inspired by your mix, and in a similar vein, a baker’s dozen of some of my all-time favorite ambient selections would include (loosely in the chronological order I first discovered them—the particular selection, not necessarily the artist): -Jean-Michel Jarre “Oxygene 1” from Oxygene (mind truly blown the first time I heard it and it has held up for 40 years!) -Harold Budd/Brian Eno “First Light” from The Plateau of Mirror (one of the very first Budd tunes I ever heard and it is still one of the more powerful introductions to his music) -Vangelis “Creation du Monde” from Apocalypse Des Animaux -Brian Eno “An Ascent” from Apollo -Tim Story “Lydia” from The Perfect Flaw -Laurie Anderson “Tightrope” from Bright Red Tightrope -Aphex Twin “#20” from Selected Ambient Works, Vol. II -Will Ackerman “Sound of Wind Driven Rain” title track -George Winston-“Remembrance” title track (I discovered George Winston and his Windham Hill peers in college and really came to love them.) -David Darling “Children” from Cello Blue (I think the whole album is amazing) -Deuter “Warm the New Dawn Sun” from Spiritual Healing (yes, I know this is solidly new age music, but I find much of his music quite deep and evocative and it has held up really well over the years) -Ruben Garcia “Eleven Moons” from Room Full of Easels (Another amazing album) -A Winged Victory for the Sullen “We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced for the Earth Had Circled the Sun Yet Another Year” from their self-named album (The whole album is incredibly, heart breakingly beautiful) This is more a list of some of my favorite artists and a single selection of theirs that I’m particularly fond of.

I appreciated the Peter Gabriel selection. I’m a huge fan of his and just wanted to note, for those unaware, that while primarily known for his vocal work, he has done some instrumental music on the side over the years including several movie soundtracks.

Stuart Dempster is someone I’m quite familiar with. I believe I first heard him on a local weekly radio show here in Portland, OR called “A Different Nature” on KBOO, a local community radio station. It was a long running show—more than twenty years, I think, created and originally hosted by Richard Francis. Francis died about 6 years ago or so, but a local group of friends/supporters/fellow DJs have kept his program alive and going ever since. That show featured lots of edgy, mainly instrumental, often Avant Garde music, but on the edges would drift on occasion into truly beautiful ambient music. It’s also where I learned about Musique Concrete—which is also an ancestor, if you will, to ambient music. I wanted to mention all of this just to note an important predecessor to online shows like yours back before there was an internet. Likewise, I wanted to acknowledge some of the predecessors and influencers of the music you often play.

cover art reminds me of how much music I've lost to cassette tape disintegration. Great mix as usual.

reminds me so much of better days in the eighties when we got to process all those new ages notions and there was a store just of relaxing/meditative ambience who would recommend favourites and new stuff would come in each month
