Musician and Film Maker Alan Benson has written, produced, and directed ‘music and arts’ based documentaries for BBC TV, ITV’s ‘The Southbank Show’ (which is soon to end), Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Really Useful Picture Company’, Buena Vista-Disney, and Celador Productions. His best known work featured within ITV’s ‘The Southbank Show’, and it is the cream of these ‘Southbank Show’ documentaries that we celebrate here tonight.
Part 1 begins by looking at the heady days of the British ‘Beat Boom’. We proceed to discuss the work of the film makers Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, and Ken Russell. We also take a look at the work of Hollywood actor Gene Hackman, the work of songwriter-producers Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller, and the Jazz pianist Oscar Peterson.
